Acne Myths Debunked

One of the factors that can aggravate the formation of acne is the lack of knowledge about the proper treatment and handling of acne and the skin. With the myriad of myths circulating about acne, it is to no surprise that a lot of people still suffer the effects of acne. Here are a few of the top myths about acne and the real score about it.

Food is the main culprit of acne.

With the array of scientific and medical studies that have been conducted on the link between what you eat and having acne, they still do not have concrete evidence to prove that a link does exist. However, it is highly suggested that eating foods with high fat and sodium content with low nutritional value, such as pizza, fried dishes, and chocolate be avoided or be at a minimum. Too much ingestion of foods with high fat content can trigger the production of hormones, thus creating an imbalance in the body. On the link between acne and dairy products, nothing conclusive about it yet has been made. The rule of thumb here is that to have healthy, acne-free skin, always eat nutritious, healthy, well-balanced meals.

Acne is caused by poor hygiene.

Poor hygiene will definitely cause a lot of unpleasant things to happen to the body, but it will not directly be the cause for acne. Acne is often caused by hormones, and not just by dirt. Even if you keep on scrubbing your skin and taking a shower, if your hormones are going wild, then you can still get acne.

Pimples should be popped for easy healing.

This is a definite myth on acne or pimples. Acne should never be popped. It will just slow down its healing and form a big and hideous scar on your skin afterwards.

The best way to cure acne is to just let it be.

Just like any other medical illness, acne needs to be treated to keep it controlled and to prevent any complication from occurring. Having the right treatment early for your acne can ensure a clearer and scar-free skin in the future.

Acne can be treated by getting a tan.

There is a proper treatment for acne, and it does not include getting a tan. A tan will just make your skin dry and irritated, and even give you premature wrinkles. It will do a lot more damage to your skin, and not treat the acne one bit.
